FiveM Speed Hack Detection: Stop Abnormal Movement
A speed hack is one of the oldest and most disruptive cheats in FiveM. A player sprints across the map faster than any vehicle, outruns police chases, and reaches objectives before anyone else can react. It looks crude, but detecting it cleanly is surprisingly hard, because the line between a cheater and a lagging player is thinner than most scripts assume.
What a speed hack actually does
A speed hack inflates the rate at which a ped or vehicle moves through the world. The cheat menu raises a movement multiplier so a normal sprint covers two or three times the ground per frame, or it forces a vehicle past its native top speed. Because position is reported to the server, the symptom is consistent: the distance a player travels between updates is larger than the game engine could ever produce for that state. The trick is not noticing the spike, it is proving the spike was impossible rather than just unlucky.
Why physics-based velocity checks beat distance limits
The naive approach is a flat rule: if a player moves more than X meters between two updates, ban them. This breaks immediately. A player on foot, in a sports car, in a jet, or in free-fall all move at wildly different speeds, so a single threshold is either too loose to catch a car speed hack or too tight to allow a fast vehicle. A real detector derives velocity from sampled positions and compares it against the physics ceiling for the player's current state. On foot has one limit, each vehicle class has another, falling has its own. Measuring speed against what the engine can actually produce for that state is what separates a legitimate fast car from a hacked ped, and it is the same state-aware logic that powers reliable teleport detection.
Multi-signal scoring vs lag false positives
Even a perfect physics limit produces noise, because the network is messy. Packet loss, rubber-banding, and a hitched server tick all create position jumps that look identical to a short burst of speed. Ban on the first violation and you will punish honest players on bad connections. The fix is to stop treating a single sample as proof:
- 1. Score over a window, not a single tick. Sustained over-limit velocity across many samples is a hack; one isolated spike is desync and should decay.
- 2. Make limits state-aware. The ceiling shifts with on-foot, vehicle class, swimming, and falling, so a fast car never reads as abnormal movement.
- 3. Cross-check related signals. A genuine speed hacker often trips other movement flags too, so correlating run speed with noclip and teleport behavior raises confidence.
- 4. Escalate, do not snap-ban. Let evidence accumulate so a clean confirmed case is actioned and a momentary lag spike is forgiven.
How Fiveuxe handles speed hacks
Fiveuxe runs speed detection inside its Movement and Combat module, fully server-side, so there is zero player FPS tax. It samples position over time, derives velocity, and tests it against state-aware physics ceilings for on-foot, vehicle, swim, and fall states, then feeds the result into a multi-signal score alongside noclip and freecam detection. That window-based scoring is why a brief desync decays instead of escalating to a false ban. When a case is confirmed, the player hits the Hive-Mind global ban network and is rejected across 100+ servers in about 0.3 seconds, while Shadow-Link HWID identity enforcement stops them rejoining on a fresh account.

State-aware physics ceilings and window-based scoring catch speed hacks without punishing a laggy player. Paid plans start at $39 a month.
FAQ
Will speed detection false-ban my players for lag?
Not when it scores movement over a window. Fiveuxe weighs sustained over-limit velocity against other signals, so a brief rubber-band or packet-loss spike decays instead of escalating to a ban.
Does it catch both run speed and vehicle speed hacks?
Yes. State-aware physics limits cover on-foot run speed, swimming, falling, and per-class vehicle velocity, so a fast car reads as legitimate while a hacked ped is flagged. The Movement and Combat module ships on every paid plan, and there is no free trial or free tier.
