How to Ban Cheaters in FiveM (And Make It Stick)
Banning a cheater in FiveM is easy. Keeping them banned is the hard part. Most owners type a ban command, watch the troublemaker disappear, then see a suspiciously familiar player rejoin an hour later. The ban worked, the enforcement did not. This guide covers why simple bans fail, how to tie a ban to something a cheater cannot trivially change, and how to keep proof for the inevitable appeal.
Why simple bans fail
The default tools ban one value: a name, a Steam ID, a Rockstar license, or an IP. Every one of those is cheap for a cheater to swap. A new Steam alt is free. A router reboot hands out a fresh IP. A VPN moves them to another country in one click. Spoofers go further and randomize the license FiveM reports on every connect. The result is ban evasion: the same person, a new identity, back in your server before the chat has scrolled. If you want the full attacker playbook, read how cheaters bypass FiveM bans.
HWID and identifier bans
The fix is to stop banning one value and start banning an identity. A hardware ID ban fingerprints the physical machine, so a new account on the same PC is still blocked. Pair that with every other stable signal the client exposes and evasion gets expensive fast. A serious ban should cover, at minimum:
- 1. Hardware ID. A fingerprint of the machine itself, so a fresh account on the same PC stays banned.
- 2. Discord ID. Ties the ban to the person's Discord identity, which is far harder to rotate than a game license.
- 3. IP and license. Still useful as supporting signals when combined with the rest, even though either one alone is weak.
- 4. Cross-referenced identifiers. The more independent signals you bind together, the more of them a cheater has to fake at once to slip back in.
Fiveuxe handles this with Shadow-Link, which binds a banned identity across HWID, Discord IDs, IP, and 12 or more identifiers at once. For a step-by-step setup, see the FiveM HWID ban guide.
Make it stick with a global ban network
A local ban only protects one server. Determined cheaters keep a list of communities and simply move to the next one when they get caught. A global ban network closes that door by sharing confirmed bans between servers, so a player banned on one is rejected everywhere on the network. Fiveuxe's Hive-Mind propagates a confirmed ban across 100+ servers in roughly 0.3 seconds. A cheater who burns their identity on your server does not get a clean slate next door, which turns a single ban into a network-wide cost.
Keep evidence for appeals
Every ban eventually gets challenged, and "trust me, they were cheating" does not survive an appeal or a refund dispute. Keep a record tied to each ban: which detection fired, a timestamp, and ideally a visual. Fiveuxe attaches this automatically. Screen & Snapshot Intelligence captures a live screen grab at the moment of detection, and the web panel logs which of the 27 detection modules triggered. When a banned player insists they are innocent, you open the case, show the snapshot and the module that flagged them, and the conversation ends. Good evidence also protects you the rare time a ban was a mistake, because you can see exactly what happened instead of guessing.
Ban once, keep them out for good
Licences start at $39/month and every one includes HWID enforcement, the Hive-Mind ban network, and evidence capture. Paste the key, restart, and your bans start binding.
FAQ
Why do banned cheaters keep coming back?
Because most bans target a single value such as a name or IP that the cheater controls and can reset. Tie the ban to hardware and multiple identifiers instead, as covered in the HWID ban guide.
Is a permanent FiveM ban actually permanent?
Only if it is enforced against an identity the cheater cannot easily change. Fiveuxe binds bans across 12 or more identifiers and shares them network-wide, so a permanent ban stays permanent. It is paid only, with no trial key.
